Verse of the day
Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them.
Otherwiseyou have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Righteousness is desirable. Everyone, no matter how sinful, worldly, recognizes this and desires deep down to be righteous in some way. It is one of the many reasons for the existence of religion.
This beautiful desire has however been hijacked by sin and made ugly. Rather than receive righteousness by God, man has sought ways to define righteousness for himself. For this reason, Jesus chided the Pharisees who made a show of their acts of righteousness.
But with the coming of faith is our righteousness in the face of God for we recognize, first, that we are accepted before Him by grace through faith. And like the Apostle Paul, we can say, “God before whom I stand.” Also, like a songwriter once wrote, “I don’t need my name in lights. I’m famous in my Father’s eyes.”
God doesn’t care much for a heart that reduces good works to be a display before Creation rather than the sincere worship to the Creator. Such is a faithless heart of which Christ was the opposite. We see Him rejecting the praise or approval of men as He sought the pleasure and approval of God alone.
When we seek men’s approval, desiring their applause, we should know that is all the reward we’ll get!
But when we labor in secret, without seeking the praise of men, our hearts should be content knowing that our audience of One beams upon us with pleasure and will reward us bountifully.

Lord, Your eyes are always on me. Teach me not to seek the approval of men but to do all righteous deed by faith in You alone.
