Does God Forget?

Day 26
Verse of the day.

Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.

Isaiah 49:15

God is calling our attention to something. He’s showing what exactly He means when He says, “I love you. I can never forget you. You are precious to Me.” Throughout scripture, God reassures us of this very thing- His unfailing, never-ending, undying Love. But He calls out in the above text as if to say, “You still don’t get it. Look here. Let me paint you a picture so you understand and never lose sight of this.”

Nothing you did made God love you and nothing you will ever do can make Him love you any more than He does already. That helps take the pressure off you, and when you think of God’s Love, you think about it with a heart of thankfulness. You stop feeling less than- like you’ll never measure up or work hard enough to deserve such a perfect gift. He doesn’t want you to. He just wants you to accept this truth and let it change the way you live.

Does God forget?

God asks an impossible thing. Can a mother ever forget her newborn? Can she choose to ignore a child she carried inside her for any reason? We all know how fussy and demanding children can be. But no amount of provocation or fatigue is ever enough for a mother to leave her child unattended, although sometimes this happens, not with God. Never with God.

God never forgets.

What we presume to be the strongest of human affections may fail. What we believe to be one of the most tightly knit of bonds could give way under pressure. But not with God. Never with God. He says, “I will not forget you.” This is a beautiful promise to hold on to, especially on days when it seems like God is silent and far away. You are dear to His heart. He hasn’t forgotten you. Never has, never will.

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.

We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God…

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

  1. Your words…you inspire me, Deborah.

“Nothing you did made God love you and nothing you will ever do can make Him love you any more than He does already.”
This admonishes one to focus on engaging and experiencing the fullness of the love He has for us, rather than striving to make Him “love us more.”

Thanks for this most insightful piece, Deborah. I have been greatly blessed by it. And I am convinced I am not the only one who has been imparted by this.

    #Boom. Haha.
Beautiful thought came to me during the day. Your comment made me remember.
You know how we sometimes pray/sing, “Lord, I want more of You”?
Well, He has already given all He is. His Son. His Spirit. His Word. His Life. His Love. His Light.
    We should rather be praying, “Take more of me”. We should give Him more room in our hearts;
More room to move IN and through our lives.

Thank you, MichaEl. God bless you!
