Verse of the day
Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
Believers who have not fully understood what they have been called to are easily swayed by things. This is a wile of the enemy. If we can’t keep them from getting saved, let us sow some distractions in them at least.
Hence, when you find believers being carried about with strange doctrines, it is needful to behold them as the Father does – in love. When you do this, you are filled with compassion for them because you can see the danger in it, just as the Father does.
The writer of today’s verse recognized the need for established hearts in the pursuit of God. He also recognized the danger of a heart that is established on the wrong structures and admonished the believer to abstain from strange doctrines. His desire, just like the Father’s was to have the heart established by grace, which is all that the Father has given in His Son.

Doctrines matter. Our words, actions, reactions, dispositions to events and experiences reflect what our hearts are established by. When our hearts are established by wrong doctrines, dreadful is the resultant effect, our focus is shifted off the One Who redeems and establishes us in Himself, on to devices that do not make us anymore like Christ.
This is how we recognize doctrines we must let go of, or hold loosely. Is it centered on Christ? Does it make us more like Him? If not let us do away with it and focus on Him for He is the beginning and end of our faith on whom we are established.

Dad, my heart is fixed on you. When I see myself or my brother, above all I see Christ in us and work towards having our hearts established in You and You alone.
