Verse of the day.
Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
To follow over social media is quite easy. You just need to click a button and you’re following anyone you want to. It is that easy. However, the same dynamics do not apply to following Jesus. Yes, there is a button to be acquired first and that is the free gift of Salvation, after which the believer follows Christ, becoming more and more like Him each day. Would you call yourself a TRUE follower of Christ if you are not given to living and becoming like Him?
Self-denial means to surrender the things that you’d naturally get by with and submit yourself to the will of God. It is letting go of your will for His. Let God’s will be done always regardless of the situation. It is in knowing that God’s will is to forgive even when everything says don’t forgive that person who hurt you (Ephesians 4:32). It is in daily living like Jesus. Would He cuss, curse or hug and forgive? “Self” must keep decreasing so that God can increase.

Take up your cross daily
The cross symbolizes shame, death, pain but it is also the greatest symbol of the love of Christ. The cross is about sacrifice. Everyone has a cross that they must take up – it’s heavy, quite uneasy to bear, and it is something to die on. But it is specifically YOUR cross because God knows that by His grace, you can handle it. Carrying this cross is dedicating everything to God that He might lead us. It is giving Him your life that He may own it and direct you. This is total submission, becoming a living sacrifice to Him (Romans 12:1, Galatians 2:20)
This cross is to be carried daily. You don’t get to pick the days you want to be like Christ and the days you want to live for self. When you choose to take up that cross, it is a cross to be carried daily for the rest of your life.
The Good news? Committing yourself to God is always worth it. God blesses you with Himself, and with gifts of eternal worth.
Following Jesus is the best decision I have ever made. I can’t say that I am at the peak of this journey but I am certainly enjoying the process and my growth curve. If you are not yet on this journey, you can begin today.

Lord, I am yours. I daily become and live like You. I am strengthened to offer You my life as an acceptable sacrifice.
