Verse of the day.
Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God.
I often feel that the most underrated form of intimacy is friendship. It’s easy to consider intimacy in an emotional relationship but what about friendship that cares for the soul, and that genuinely cares about you? A true form of friendship is meant to care about your body, soul and spirit. Your friend isn’t meant to be only there for the ‘turn-ups’ but for the ‘down times’.
In moments of despair, you know who your friends are. They are the ones that won’t go away. It’s so easy to be friends with people when everything is sunny, but when it’s raining and the storm comes, can you stand it?
In our verse for today, David was on the run for his life because Saul wanted him dead. David’s best friend, Jonathan went to meet him in the wood and strengthened him in the Lord.
Many times, we get into depressing situations that literally have our backs against the wall leaving us with nowhere to go and when this happens, you need the right ally to get you out of there to avoid drowning.

Now, the big question:
What do you do when your friend is down? Are you a true friend? How do you encourage them?
It’s important that friendship strengthens, not tear down. While banter is encouraged for healthy communication, if your words would rather tear down than uplift your pals, it’s better to keep that joke to yourself.
It’s also important to be able to call your friend to order when they are going astray. If you love God and His things, you’d be doing your friend a disservice you were not telling them about the awesomeness of God. But never mind, I’d leave you to fix that.
Strengthen your friends in the Lord not in the world. Remind them of God’s promises and love. Most times, it’s not that they don’t know it. It’s just that the problems are too heavy to bear that they don’t remember it.
Imagine waiting on the Lord with your friend to get them through a storm. Now, that’s a friendship goal.
What kind of friend are you? What kind of friend am I?

I would be the true friend You’ve called me out to be. I receive from You the strength to.
