Verse of the day.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
There is a hope that disappoints. And one that doesn’t. The hope that never disappoints is the Hope placed in God. Having a look at the preceding verses in the verse under consideration helps clear this up. Hope in one’s ability can and most times will fail, leading to disappointment and shame.
There are many reasons for our failings. Our strength is limited. There is only so much the human mind can go through as every day comes with its own baggage of trouble (Matthew 6:34). The constant urge to take on your own storms or battles always ends in failure. Failure doesn’t come in the fact that you did it and it failed to work. Failure comes when you do it without placing God at the center, thus preventing His purposes for such storms from being achieved in your life. This is Failure.
Samson took on his storms and failed. Even when the source of his strength had been taken away, he thought, “over the years I’ve been winning, this moment won’t be different.” But guess who was gagged by the Philistines? Samson! (Judges 16:20)

The Hope born of the Holy Spirit grows through a process. Faith in God brings about peace because you believe and know that God is capable of bringing His promises to pass. Tribulations arrive but we remain undaunted because we are convicted that these tribulations brew patience in us. In moments of our trails, our waiting strength is tested and this is where our enduring capacity is either stretched or snapped off. When our patience fails its test, we fall back to the end of the pile but if when tested by the storms of life, we survive the ordeal, it becomes an experience and this experience births hope that never disappoints.
Hope that grows through a process produces an unwavering confidence in God. This hope in God is fuelled by the love of God which is poured out in our hearts.
