How Rich Are You?

Day 152
Verse of the day.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Colossians 3:16

Have you ever studied the Bible and marvelled at how much there is to it? The Scriptures are like springs of living waters that never dry up. Every believer ought to approach this point of utter wonder at the depth of God’s Word. When this doesn’t happen, we may need to ask questions of ourselves.

The Word is Rich

David spoke so glowingly of the Word of God and dedicated a whole chapter of 176 verses to expressing how much he loved God’s Word (Psalm 119). This deep love for the Word of God is something every believer must have or at least desire with diligence.

What is so important about God’s Word that we should love it so much? Well, everything! The word is the anchor of our faith from start to finish. Since faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17), we need to urgently abide in the word. The word also reveals Christ, who is our mentor, to us. The word of God is the Sword of the Spirit. What’s a soldier without a sword?

Are You Rich In The Word?

Our text for today begins with an assumption that the Word has entered us, and then goes on to admonish that the Word richly dwells. It is one thing to read, listen to and study the Word but it is quite another to have the Word dwell richly in us. The extent of this richness in the Word is determined by how well we receive Jesus into our hearts, and not just a mental knowing. It is determined by constant meditation, as we let Him take His course in our wills and desires.

When we are rich in the Word (not by head knowledge but by a heart where the Word has found its resting place), we become rivers that can overflow to others.

Today’s Prayer

Father, I can not find true joy in You or have the strength to love others apart from the grace You give from Your Word. Help me by the Spirit to engage scriptures and keep them alive in my heart.
