Verse of the day
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Only when you come to understand the love of God can you set out on the journey of (truly) knowing Him, and knowing Him brings you to a place of trust. Think about it this way: Love opens the door for you to come into relationship with the King of kings. It puts you in such a privileged position- one you could never do anything to deserve, one that is neither initiated or sustained by your own efforts.
So you know He loves you, you draw near without feelings of guilt and condemnation. He begins to speak to you, teaching you about His Ways and Who He is. It is knowing God on such a deep level that causes you to trust Him with all that you are and all that you have- with your very life.

What Power Has Love Over Fear?
“…because fear involves torment.”
Those who trust in God and keep their hearts focused on Him are kept in perfect peace. We once learned about how “the Peace of God is a defense” for us (follow the link if you missed it). As we have just seen, love gives way for the true knowledge of God, which in turn births trust in Him. By trusting in God, we receive the kind of peace only He can give and are able to live in victory over fear and any other battle, within or around us. God’s Love conquers fear.
Made Perfect in Love
“But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
Spiritual life cannot be said to be whole and complete without Love. Without love, we have nothing at all (1 Corinthians 13:2). Living in fear means you have not truly known Him in Whom you have believed. How can you worship a God you do not know? How can you become like Him if you still feel “hindered” in some way, from drawing near? Understanding how much God loves you changes you. It helps you live with abandon, knowing God has nothing but the very best for you. Seeing God in this light makes you desire and seek intimacy with Him.

Father, today I am open to Your Love. I grow in understanding, knowledge of You. I love and trust You and will never live controlled by fear.
