Verse of the day.
“The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.”
There is a perversion in the human soul: its desire for self-glory. This constitutes a great deviation from what it was created for, which is to bring glory and pleasure to God (Revelation 4:11). Sin had come in and distorted the original plan, tilting the angle of the soul a full 180 degrees away from the One it was made to worship.
John had been preaching about a Messiah to come and this earned him some faithful followers. But the moment Jesus stepped in, he ceased telling them about this Messiah and showed him to them. He pointed them in the direction of the One he was sent to proclaim. The disciples heard him (John) and followed Him (Christ).
The Moon, in all its quiet beauty, shines no light of its own. It only reflects the light of the Sun. God made us moons to His Sun. And beyond this, He made us colours to His Light, echoes to His Voice and expressers of His Life. We were created to express the beauty and wonder of God; to be a perfect reflection of Him.

Therefore, when we come to God, the first thing He asks us to do, is not to deny sins (bad actions, habits, lifestyles etc.) but to deny ourselves; to deny the sin in us.
To the carnal mind, this sounds too radical, too harsh. “Let me keep some,” it says. But God knows that until we disregard, lose sight of and completely disown ourselves, we’ll always be lights casting shadows. Until we do this, our echoes will be nothing but noise; distorted by the strange wave of self.
When this happens, we’ll lead people to ourselves and command their follower-ship. The danger here is: our followers will strife when they see a weakness in us, and strife when they see none because we lack natural ability to express the Life of Christ.
God does not seek a well-organized, all-figured-out life but one that rests in the victory of the cross. A life of total surrender, one that, through faith, has let go of itself so much that when the Spirit points to a strange wave, it throws its hands up and says, “It was never mine.”
