Verse of the day.
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Seek and ye shall find,
This is an interesting part of Matthew 7:7. Often we seek to have God in our endeavours – work, finances, emotional life etc. We pray, fast, practice acts of devotion, hoping to receive. BUT then, nothing happens!!! This place of Radio silence is frustrating, scary and makes you feel that God is most probably far from you. It also makes you question God’s love for you – although that’s the last thing we really can question, seeing its full expression when Jesus died (and rose) to redeem us from sin and death. His love is thus never in doubt.
So why does it feel like God is far from us despite all His love for us?
Our verse for today answers the question. “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Most times we seek God like users and not lovers of God.
This is why we often don’t find Him. A user comes to God with wants. He seldom lives to give. And when he does give, he expects a gift in return. A lover of God surely has needs like everyone else but he lives in love with God. He offers his time, abilities, life, everything. It is such relationship as this that makes them nearer God, for they have drawn near to Him and He has drawn near to them (James 4:8).
Seeking God with all your heart creates a bond between God and you, and causes you to understand His language. Thus when he fails to grant your requests, you can tell why. You understand that He knows what’s best for you so if not granting your request is not ideal, He won’t. However, it takes knowing the mind of Christ to know that God is not answering that request because His plans and ways are bigger – remember that He only has good thoughts towards you (Jeremiah 29:11).
It is also important not to get carried away in our wants that we lose sight of the true essence of God and the communion that He seeks to have with us.

Father, I seek You as a lover and not a user. I am not driven to You by my wants but my desire for You.
