The Father’s Child

Day 137
Verse of the day

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not.

1 John 3:1

One thing I have come to learn about the term ‘family’ is that it is not a measure of blood in the relationship. Yes, we have biological parents who have contributed to our birth and development but there are friends that stick closer than brothers and there are men and women who admonish, lift us and uphold in ways the ones related to us by blood would not. This is family.

There is a Father who calls us His own. Yes, ALL of us. He is available, reliable and dependable. He doesn’t flinch based on the magnitude of your problem. He doesn’t think you are too toxic for Him. When He chose you as His child, He meant it. It cost Him the blood of your Big Brother, Jesus who is also His son. He showed us the meaning of family through LOVE. Love is the unifying factor that reconciled us unto God. It is love that was lavished on us that made us His children.

Imagine this, your father owns a Chocolate factory and part of your right or entitlement is to receive a bar of chocolate daily (P.S: Let’s say we are in a land where sugar-related diseases don’t exist), would you hide underneath your bed to have a bite? No! But guess what? A lot of us still act as though we are not His children. We are afraid to come boldly to the Father when He has told us to do this (Hebrews 4:16). This shouldn’t be. Know your place as a Child and act like one.

Being a Child of God doesn’t come without its challenges. Jesus faced persecution for being the Son of God. He had the right to do a lot of miracles and move in ways ordinary people couldn’t. This led to envy, strife and other wrong feelings among others. In the same vein, our sonship would attract enemies but there’s no need to fret because ALL things work together for our good to them that love God (Romans 8:28).

Today’s Confession:

Daddy, I am so proud to be your child. I’ll rest and grow in my role as your son/daughter.
