Verse of the day.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
Love is one of the most misunderstood truths in the world. This should not be so shocking since Satan, the archenemy of God, always seeks to distort the image of God. And what better place to start than the very nature of God?
…let us love…
Love is a command and a choice. It goes beyond a feeling because times will come when we have to love the most unlovable persons and love in the least conducive scenarios. It is hard in such cases.
“…for love is of God …”
However, love doesn’t begin with the commandment and choice. This instruction to love comes from the truth that “ love is of God ”. The implication is clear since God is basically saying, “because love is from Me, you should love one another.” God is the source of love. He is love. And this truth gives us the freedom to love.

“…everyone who loves is born of God…”
Love being of God can only be accessible to us when we are born of God, meaning anyone who has not been born of God is incapable of love. It doesn’t matter how nice or generous they are.
“…and knows God.”
Knowing God comes as we behold Him, as we draw close and gaze upon Him. The test of our knowledge of God is therefore not based only on how much spiritual knowledge we have, but on how well we love. Knowing a person intimately goes beyond having facts about them, it is when we see the reflection of them in us.
Love is the most direct pointer to our being born of God and the clearest test of how well we know Him.

Father, thank You for being my source of Love. Teach me to love like You do. Help me translate my knowledge of You into love.
