The Perfect High Priest

Day 103
Verse of the day.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 4:15

God wants a Daddy-Son/Daughter relationship with us. He wants us to establish a friendship where we can boldly approach Him with confidence and reverence. When we come to God, we do so without fear because the Perfect High Priest, Jesus Christ, already broke the barrier that separates us from God.

The High Priest used to be the Jews’ topmost religious leader. He alone could go before God in the most sacred room in the temple. He did this once a year on the “Day of Atonement”, a day in which he atoned for his sins as well as the sins of the people. He was a mediator for the people and himself.

Unlike the Jewish High Priests, Jesus is the perfect High Priest. He is One without sin who went in to make atonement ONCE and for all. He did this for all but Himself for He knew no sin. However, though He knew no sin, Jesus understands our weaknesses, frailties, and temptations because He was fazed by the same. As a man, He experienced all that we experience and was yet without sin. Jesus has paved a way and set the template for how we should approach God.

God is full of mercy. Sending His Son, Jesus is a big indication of this. God is Love. And while Love does not condone sin, Love accepts the sinner who readily turns to Him. God is waiting to embrace you like a father would embrace His child. But you’ve got to go to Him. Do that today.

Today’s Confession:

Lord, I come to you today as a child who knows their father. I am sorry for all the times I have acted otherwise. Receive me today.
