Verse of the day
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
When a child is born, he is completely dependent on everyone around him. He is clueless about life and how to live it. All he knows to do at that time is to, by instinct, respond to basic stimuli. It is, therefore, the responsibility of his parents, siblings and every other member of the family, but chiefly the parents, to nurture and train him.
The instruction in today’s verse is to train up a child in the way he should go. In life, there are many ways but in God, there is one way, the only way. Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way…” This implies that Jesus is the way in which a child should go for He alone leads to a perfect destination – also Him.
Jesus is the way to the Father; He is life eternal and everlasting.
As a spiritual father or mother, as a brother or sister in the family of God, it is, therefore, your responsibility to train up the children in the faith, in the way they should go. ‘Children’, as used here, isn’t limited to children in the body, but also applies those who are still growing into perfection, those who though saved are unable to exercise their senses to discern both good and evil, and who may still be carnal and immature. You are to extend the hand of love, mercy, compassion, and fellowship towards them and teach them the right way to go. You should feed and nurture them with the word of God and pray for their growth in the faith. It is as you do this that he will not depart from it. A child that knows the way of the Lord will never be lost. He would be kept in the way for as long as he abides in it.

Thank you, Father, for the gift of being able to minister to children in the faith. I will faithfully learn the proper way to go and train others to do the same.
