Verse of the day.
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
You are of God
God is not shy about us, neither is He wary of letting us know just how much we mean to Him.
It is no small matter to be identified as being of (or belonging to) God. This is a status higher and infinitely greater than anything we can be offered by other persons.
When God shamelessly owns us, He places us in a special rank; not because we are wonderful in our selves but simply because of the glory of the One to whom we belong. We are who we are because of who He is.
You have overcome them
In verses preceding our Verse Of The Day, the Apostle spoke against false prophets and antichrists. Looking further, however, we find that his speech was focused on spirits that are against the Spirit of Christ rather than men who spit errors. He spoke against the totality of forces that stand in our way as believers because they are aimed at attacking our faith in the Son.
Interestingly, we were not told that we would overcome these spirits. No. We were told very plainly how we have overcome them. Do you see that? As with every victory won at the cross, this has already happened!

Then we ask, why then do we often fall for these spirits? The answer is simple – we do not know who we are. Too many times, we rub shoulders with the world; aligning ourselves with their thoughts, actions, speech, pursuit, desires, fears, vision and so on.
Until we come to know and understand that we belong to God, we will continually struggle with the baser things of the world. The One to whom we belong has clearly revealed to us His victory over the world (John 16:33), why then should we do any less seeing we are no more orphans?
Victory is beyond claiming to belong to God. It is a deep-seated alignment with God in our souls. It is boldly drawing from the wells He has freely given because we know we belong. It is a heart that says yes and amen to the promises He has made to us.

Father, I belong to you. I am not an orphan. I have overcome the world, so I boldly declare and walk in this victory today in Jesus’ name.
