Build Yourself Up

Day 189
Verse of the day

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

Jude 1:20

To rest in God does not in any way translate to being indifferent about spiritual matters. It does not translate to praying less, spending less time in meditation, or exercising less of yourself to practice good works which glorify God. To assume an attitude which, if penned down in words, would say, “God has done it all for me, I have nothing else to do,” would only reflect one’s lack of understanding of what it means to rest in God.

On the contrary, to rest in God is to submit one’s self to higher degrees of sacrifice, to give earnest heed to basing ALL your purposes and actions on the revealed will and purposes of God.

As a believer who has received the seed of God in you, you have the responsibility of submitting yourself to fully rest in Him for the cultivation of that seed to its full expression. You cannot afford to treat with levity a faith which the God of all created beings calls sacred. Hence, you must build yourself up on this holiest faith which is no more something you once watched people pursue, but is something which you now believe, a faith which has now become yours.

The apostle, in stirring us up to build ourselves on our most holy faith, does not leave us directionless but lends us knowledge of a practical way of achieving this – pray in the Holy Ghost.

To pray in the Holy Ghost is not an aimless act of rolling the tongue without a purpose or focus, it is a deliberate act of praying the prayers of the Spirit which may for a moment be kept from your mind, but still…you pray.

Do read Day 188 (The Infilling of the Holy Spirit) if you haven’t.

Today’s Confession

Dad, I accept as much responsibility as You have given me to build up myself in my most holy faith. I receive from You today the required knowledge to accurately do this. Thank You for granting my request.

Activity: Take some time to pray after you’ve read this.
