Verse of the day
Fear not, O land; Be glad and rejoice, For the Lord has done marvelous things!
God wants us to be joyful. It is His earnest desire for us. A critical look at all that He has done for man points to His desire to have us experience righteousness, peace, and joy in Him. The death of Christ, His resurrection, ascension and continuous work in us, all eventually bringing us into His person, a place where love, joy, and light abound.
Several times, we are faced with uncertainties about the future. What to do next, where to go, how to ensure we are walking according to God’s leading. God recognizes the potential of these to fill us with fear and doubt and encourages us not to be afraid. Such fear often arises when we look more on ourselves than we do on God. Hence, when God, by His word, asks us to rejoice and be glad, He is asking us to take our eyes off ourselves and inadequacies and focus them on Him; to take our eyes off our circumstances and find delight in the victory that He has already gotten. For our future is already written in God’s books and none of it is new to Him.
Sometimes your despair may stem from your seeming failure in your walk with God. Listen, your failure is not hidden from Him. And His word remains the same; rather than live in fear and belief that you would still fail Him tomorrow even if you tried to do right, focus on the marvelous things He has done, the victory He got in redemption and live from your elevated position in Him. Again, this is a call to take your eyes off yourself and focus them on Jesus for He is the source of true and lasting joy.
When God, asks us to rejoice and be glad, He essentially asks us to take our eyes off ourselves and our inadequacies and focus them on Him; to take our eyes off our circumstances and find delight in the victory that He has already gotten.Click To Tweet
