“I Am Not Affected”

Day 147
Verse of the day

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

Empathy is first divine before it is human. Our heavenly Father sees and feels everything. He is totally immersed in our situations and circumstances. He feels all that we feel. None of the pain and insecurity we feel is new, which is why it hurts (it must hurt) when we, who claim to be partakers of His divine nature, cannot react the same way He does to the things happening around us.

It is bad enough to act like we do not see the sufferings of others. It is worse when we make a mockery of it or treat them like it doesn’t matter. Even if we feel we cannot help – which isn’t the case – it’s best to stay quiet.

God’s word calls us to bear one another’s burdens. These people are everywhere – the church, work, our cities, nation, the world as a whole. The key is to begin where you are. Through this, we fulfil the law of Christ.

Christ took our heavy burdens and cares, and bore them Himself. He gave us His light burden in exchange. Till today, He is still willing, asking that we cast all our cares on Him… because He cares for us.

To fulfil the law of this Christ, we must do the same to our neighbours whether saved or unsaved. We must willingly lift their burdens off their shoulders and place them on Christ, and willingly place on them the burdens of Christ. This is how we fulfil the law of Christ. Not just talks, jokes, unnecessary entertainment, but deliberate actions guided by written and living Truth.

Today’s Prayer

I am your child. Please help me feel the pains of creation just as you feel their pain. May I not be insensitive to the sufferings of my brothers, sisters, friends and strangers.
