Verse of the day
For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Receiving the salvation that Calvary brings marks the beginning of a journey. It ushers us into a new faith, a new environment, a new life, a school.
As it is with physical schools, so knowledge must be gained here; FULL knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ must be gained. He is the standard we grow into and seek to attain.
When the apostle Paul says, “by the grace of God I am what I am,” he must not be understood as saying, “I am nothing. I did nothing. I only sat and watched His grace work.” Be it far from the apostle to mean so, for even he reiterated that he “labored more abundantly than they all.”
The apostle Peter hopes to pass this same lesson, that we must resist the temptation to be indifferent towards the things of the Spirit in the name of rest. We have a responsibility to be actively involved in growing and becoming fruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This active involvement includes adding to our faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love, and causing these to abound. Furthermore, this leads us to realize that our effort built on the foundation of faith in God is needful in our walk with Him. This is what it means to love Him with our heart, soul, and mind.
We must not in leaving it all to God, leave it all to God in indifference, but must by building on the foundation of our Faith in Christ, build ourselves up with the supplies that our Father has given. This is the only way to ensure constant growth and fruitfulness in the faith of Christ.
God has given us all in and through Jesus, now we must do our part in bringing all of our strength and faculties to know and become like Him.
