Verse of the day
And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Sometimes we find that Christians often do not appear as the greatest models of wisdom. This is not a reflection of the nature of God or His word but can be blamed on the fact that most often when we study the scriptures, we study them through our eyes, the eyes of another human being but not the eyes of God who is the Author. This ends up limiting our understanding of the wisdom therein.
We must not see the scriptures based on how someone we respect sees it, or on how ‘we were taught’. Rather, we must focus on what the scriptures really say. This makes it needful to study, study again, and study yet again, coupling this with meditation and dependence on the tutorship of the Holy Spirit just so we see the very things He would have us see; for no one knows a book better than its Author. And when we find that we have learned the scriptures wrongly, we unlearn and relearn.
When we encounter the pure, accurate, holy scriptures, they make us wise, not only to salvation from sin but salvation from a system of beliefs, a thought pattern, a life that is not after our design in God. We become brought into the life that God designed for us through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
This is what we must give ourselves continually to, the truth of God’s word and not hearsay.
And yes, we must expose our children to the holy scriptures. If a child can receive salvation from sin, then he can receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the truth of God’s written word.
Do you desire to be wise? Do you desire to keep yourself and your children from a wisdom of the world that is foolishness with God? Feed yourselves not with an idea of the holy scriptures, but with the holy scriptures themselves.
Lord, help me find the wisdom hidden in the undiluted, truth in the holy scriptures, obey them and be made wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
