Verse of the day.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
The picture of Abraham lifting a knife to slay his only son is definitely thought-provoking. It makes us wonder about the kind of love and faith that was driving him to offer his greatest treasure in such unquestionable obedience. Most importantly, we are granted a glimpse at a shadow of what God, the Father did with Jesus, His Son; in which case, unlike Abraham, His Son was not spared (Romans 8:32). The Father left His Son to die in the hands of men out of His love for us. He did this while we were still His enemies.
Abraham was willing to offer up Isaac to the God who gave him everything; God offered up Jesus for Man who owed Him everything.
That the timeless God of the universe went past the proclamation of His love and stepped into our reality to express this love towards us defies reason in all its forms. He stepped out of eternity into time to offer up all He had. He did this by completely sacrificing Himself on the wooden altar of a cross; for His enemies. This is a holy demonstration of love – His eternal Love which is and which flows from Him and into us; such love as brings and binds us to Him in perfect, eternal union.
A glimpse at this truth helps us take a cue from God in making our love for Him and others a holy demonstration.Abraham offered up Isaac to the God who gave him everything; God offered up Jesus for Man who owed Him everything.
