Verse of the day
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
There is a huge difference between drinking water for pleasure and drinking water out of necessity. A man who successfully escapes the pursuit of a greyhound would drink water out of desperation, unlike a man who is tempted to drink water out of seeing a bottle in the refrigerator.
God wants you to want him as desperately as your next breath. He wants to be desperately sought after, not as a bottle sitting in your fridge awaiting your interest. He wants a relationship where He doesn’t come second but matters in every passing moment of your life.
To be agog for God is to be passionate about Him. To literally be up and doing about Him. You can’t be passionate if you don’t burn intensely for Him.
It is possible to have the zeal to work for God but not to be ‘agog’ for God. A lot of us float in this region. We want to do “Godly/Church” things and as long as we are present at all church programmes; it just ticks the box. However, a relationship with the One who has called us to do the work is lacking. We are absolutely bothered about the wrong things. Our priorities are indeed misplaced.
A key example is Martha. Jesus stopped by her house and she immediately set off into ‘activity’ of utmost importance to her while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet to learn that which is most important. This is not to discount Martha’s efforts if anything but though it seemed Mary was not being helpful, Jesus says in His response to her, and to us too; ‘when you are bothered by too many things, you miss the One thing.’
Our soul is not going to be agog for God if it’s a busy soul. To get to the stage where you see God’s face and appear before Him, we must be free of distractions and tuned into needing Him.
