Verse of the day
Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
There is a need for you and me to know God for ourselves. This I believe is the underlying message in Paul’s words in the verse above.
When Paul spoke, he made sure to state clearly that the looming problem wasn’t the presence of external enemies of the faith, but the presence of enemies within the fold of believers. It wasn’t about the wolves but the wolf in sheep’s clothing. This was the same warning Jesus gave when He warned His disciples to “beware of wolfs in sheep’s clothing.” (Matthew 7:15)
Just as it was with Paul and the earliest disciples of Jesus, so it is with us. There are many among us who speak perverse things, teaching for truth things that are erroneous in themselves, things contrary to the genuine doctrine of Christ.
What is their aim in all of this? To bring division into the fold and draw disciples after themselves.
A divided church cannot perform optimally, cannot fully walk and work in her identity, cannot operate to her full capacity. Such is the purpose of the enemy through these ones, to bring and leave the church, his arch-nemesis in a weakened state. And we must not be ignorant of his devices.
Many times, we see the evidence of this when we fail to stay in the ministry of the word and prayers. We become easily distracted, thus bringing a neglect of the true doctrine of Christ. This makes us easy prey to self-made doctrines that divide the body. Doctrines born of unwholesome, selfish ambition.
Therefore, beloved, it is not enough to be aware of the presence of wolves among us, but we must give ourselves to diligently seek and know God for ourselves. This way we would be able to discern and recognize for ourselves the doctrines that negate Christ and those that speak only of Him, and by this knowledge save not just ourselves, but our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Thank you dear heavenly Father for your love that is evident even in your warnings and reproves. I will give myself to diligently seeking you, that I may fix my eyes on you and never be distracted or driven by the perverse doctrines of men.
