Loving God The Right Way

Day 217
Verse of the day

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.

1 John 5:1

At one point, we have found it hard to understand that we do not have to “do” anything to be saved. But it is true, good conducts cannot save, neither can sacrifice or creed. The only thing that can save us according to the demand of God is BELIEF. Believing in the resurrected Christ not only saves us but it brings us into the family of God.

However, belief does not merely translate to knowing that Jesus Christ is Saviour – even the devil knows that. It is the decision to surrender, to submit to God and rely on Him for sustenance. Everyone who comes into this reality is a child of God. He has God’s DNA. He is co-heir with Christ who is the firstborn.

Since everyone who believes is a partaker of the divine nature of God and has the Spirit of God, shouldn’t there be love among us since we are one? If we love the Father, shouldn’t we love all that is begotten of Him just like us?

God who is Love has shed abroad this same love in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we must love one another by offering grace and truth to one another. We must adopt a ‘body approach’ to our relationships for this is what we are – one body. Some should not endure lack while others rest in abundance. If you have been given so much then share with those who appear to have less, and so match up the surplus with the deficits. This way there will be nothing left over to the one with the most and nothing lacking to the one with the least.

Beloved, do not neglect the needs of the members of the body. Let each work for the benefit of all. Let the love of God dwell in you richly.

Today’s Confession

I am a partaker of God’s divine nature because I believe. I love the Lord so I love others. I will spend and be spent for the sake of my brothers. I do not neglect the needs of those in the household of faith. The love of God contrains me always to give grace and truth.
