Verse of the day.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Picture a cymbal being crashed with the help of a stick, in music, alongside other instruments. You can tell how beautiful it sounds being part of a whole. Now, imagine the same cymbal being continuously crashed, not as a part of a whole, but alone, on its own. You’d be forgiven if you are disconcerted by the prospect of such.
Well, beloved, that irritating, disconcerting sound you hear from a cymbal being continuously crashed on its own reflects, to a degree, the reaction of heaven when they watch us demonstrate our divine abilities without love.
Power is needful in our lives as ambassadors of the Almighty; the ability to do good, and be a source of blessing to people around us in the simplest or biggest ways is as needful as a cymbal is as an instrument of music or sound, for if it wasn’t needful, God wouldn’t make it available. But if we gathered so much knowledge and ability, such that we could effectively communicate with men and angels alike, and yet lack love, to God, we would be nothing more than the continuous disconcerting sound from an individually crashed cymbal.
Love is the beautiful effect produced when different instruments of sound are brought together to create resounding harmony. This is the language God speaks to us and the language He wants to hear us speak to Him. In Christ, He has made and still makes beautiful music for us to dance to, and desires that we also make music to make Him dance too. And the music, the song God expects from us is the song of demonstrated love…love for Him and love for all that He loves.
