Verse of the day
The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
Nature ensures that we get hungry regardless of how much we eat. Hunger is needful for survival. It such that it becomes abnormal and dangerous for one not to get hungry. In addition to this, just eating isn’t what matters the most, but what one eats.
This nature of hunger (and the resultant feeding habits) also applies to the human heart. Just as one whose heart is filled with vanity constantly seeks to be satisfied with vain things, one whose heart has been transformed in nature by the gospel and its truths will earnestly seek and desire to know more of Christ, His person, and grace. He’ll follow on to know Him, and not be content with whatever present degree of knowledge he has attained. He’ll listen to and study and meditate on God’s word, and pray so as to come to a perfect knowledge of Him.
It is unhealthy and detrimental for a believer not to thirst and hunger for God. To feel satisfied with how much of the knowledge of God one has attained is, in reality, to be satisfied with self.
Beloved, our heart cry should be to know him more and that our heart constantly pants after the truth.
Dad, may my soul ever hunger and thirst for You and all that’s Yours.
