Verse of the day:
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead…
For every race, there is a goal. For an athlete, the goal is to finish the race and win the prize. The Christian life is quite similar. God has a goal – the replication of His nature in us, that we may come into all of God. This is the chief purpose for our conversion; the purpose for Christ’s death and resurrection, the outpouring of His Spirit on us and the spiritual gifts we receive. God desires that we should be fully conformed to the image of His Son. Paul the apostle had this understanding and he made God’s goal his own; the reason he endured all the hardships that he went through without complaints, having a conviction that whatever God allows is in a bid to achieve His goal. Like him, we ought to make God’s goal ours too.
…but one thing I do…
We should emulate Paul and let our lives be focused on this goal of becoming fully like Christ. We should forget our past achievements and failures that would either encourage us to be vain or have our hopes for future victories stifled.
As we go about our daily activities; shopping, studying, conversing, learning, working, doing business, etc. we should have this goal in view: that in all our endeavors, we would become like Christ and have Him express His character in us.
Reaching forward to those things which are ahead
An athlete keeps running as long as he sees the distance yet to be covered ahead of him. Similarly, we should see all our attainments as nothing, while eagerly reaching forward to the greater heights God wants us to attain. At the end of the race, we shall reach our goal and receive the crown which is the prize for those who run the race.

Dear Lord, I accept your goal of conforming me to your image and I make it mine too. I receive the grace to pursue this one goal, forgetting my past failures and achievements.
