Promises: Restoration and Strength

Day 357
Verse of the day

Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.

Isaiah 35:3

Sometimes you feel you have gone through a season of ‘enduring’ dryness, periods of extended sorrow – that reach so deep into your very being that you begin to lose sight of who you are; and Who God is. It’s times like these that the words that could set you standing on your feet again start to mean little or nothing. These words are the testimonies and promises that help build your faith in God. But when you get out of the habit of looking behind you and recounting how faithful God has been, and looking ahead of you to the amazing plans He has for your life, you start to sink. To be discouraged is a dangerous place, and we must do our best never to dwell there for too long.

Interestingly, discouragement is a vital part of our walk with God. It allows Him to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. God sees when His children’s feet become heavy, when their hearts begin to fail, when they feel tormented by fear, when it seems as though their efforts have been a waste. He sees all these things and reaches out in His perfect timing.

The Prophet Isaiah lived in a day when God’s people under attack from the Assyrian army.  Although God delivered Judah by sending a plague to destroy the camp of the Assyrians, Isaiah looked beyond his time and foretold the coming bondage of Judah and the deliverance that God would provide. This gives a graphic illustration of the circumstances in which today’s text was set and it’s significance to our lives. Whether it’s dryness, or grief, frustration, or uncertainty, God is working in you and on your behalf.

“With this news bring cheer to all discouraged ones”
