Reaching for the Highest.

Day 5
Verse of the day.

For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.

Psalm 36:9

The human soul is designed such that it thirsts for something more than itself, outside of itself. We are often told of a “God-sized void” inside us, which nothing else on either side of eternity can satisfy. This is true for everyone, believing or not. Nothing the world has to offer will ever quite be enough. Nothing in the other existing realms will ever bring us to a state of completeness and fulfillment.

We can only be filled by all that God is and all He has to give (Psalm 42:1-2, 63:1). The New Living Translation renders the main text most beautifully: For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.

God is the Fountain

This gives a perfect picture of God as Source and Sustainer. An understanding of God as our Source teaches us to come to Him. But beyond this, knowing God as our Sustainer means we come to understand that we mustn’t just come, but keep coming to Him. And in coming to Him, stay and receive, and continue receiving until we ourselves become conduits, ever filled and flowing to others (John 7:38).

First Of Lights

God is the Light

Human invention has come a long way since the first light bulb. Designers will tell you, “Lighting affects the ‘mood’ within a space.” Nothing changes about the human eye. The objects we see remain the same. But the ‘character’ of the light source affects and oft determines, how and what we see. Neon lights, for instance, will ‘confuse’ the eye and alter the actual colours of objects in view.

Do you see? God is “…the light by which we see”. Only through Him can we see and know things as they truly are. Every other medium or vista distorts and deceives.

Lift your eyes. Look to Him. Look through Him. For in Him we find the Life and Light we need to live; which change us, who change things.

God is the light by which we see. Only through Him can we see and know things as they truly are.Click to Tweet
