Verse of the day
Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;
The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Therefore, as followers of Christ, we have been called, among other things, to a life of joy.
Our possession of joy should not stem from the absence of trouble in our lives, or in the world around us but in our ability to live above them.
In our decision to follow Christ, we will live by setting our flint-like faces against a system which is averse to the system of the kingdom of our God. This is assured to bring us trouble at some point. It is this assurance of trouble that causes the apostle – who had his fair share of the same as did our Lord Jesus Christ – to offer us some needed encouragement. In his words, we must be patient in trouble, not basing our joy on things that only appear in the present, but in hope of all that the Father has planned for; things which are revealed to us by the Holy Spirit in us.
Therefore, in all our troubles, we will do well to remember that these light afflictions work for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory which we will only keep our eyes on by rejoicing in hope, being patient in trouble and staying prayerful. This is how our eyes see, our ears hear, and our minds receive all that the Father has prepared for us who love Him. Tomorrow can only be better than today.
