Verse of the day
Let each of you look out not for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Selflessness is an indispensable virtue. Jesus, whose life we imitate exemplified it when He came down to our level to get us up to His. He emptied Himself to have us filled.
Seeking the interest of others is seeking the interest of Christ. We should practice getting out of our comfort zones, forgetting our challenges for a minute and reaching out to bring joy to others. We can do this through an encouraging email, a text message or phone call, basically making it clear we care about their welfare. If you consider your life to be filled with challenges, also consider that they could be experiencing the same.
The call to seek the interest of others isn’t a call to totally place yourself at the mercy of fellow men. It rather means that you are not so consumed with self love and indulgence that you forsake others.
Though tired and thirsty, Jesus reached out to save a lost Samaritan woman. Just as He found gratification in reaching out to her, we must do the same in reaching out to others.
Find your interest in the interest of others. Find joy and fulfilment in helping people. Make them joyful and satisfied. Pour out yourself for their growth and development. And when the time comes for someone else to be of genuine help to you, do not refuse their help. Henceforth, in everything you do, consciously look out for the interest of others as well. Have a mindset that makes the interest of others your own interest. It isn’t always about you.Though tired and thirsty, Jesus reached out to save a lost Samaritan woman. Just as He found gratification in reaching out to her, we must do the same in reaching out to others.
Jesus, thank You for showing me a perfect example of humility and selflessness. Henceforth, I choose to look out for the interest of others and find my interest in theirs.
