Speak To Jesus From Your Heart

Day 183
Verse of the day

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

John 5:7

Jesus wants to meet you where you are.

Today’s text focuses on the sincerity of a helpless sick man who got healed despite his apparent lack of knowledge on how God works. His statement above was in response to a question that Jesus asked, “do you want to be made well?” Now, this man had no idea who Jesus was, he didn’t know Him as Healer, didn’t even know the man he talked with had a name that meant Saviour, but yes he wanted to be healed and he knew only one way to get that; the healing pool. And, when he sighted Jesus, hope arose in him; “perhaps, this able-bodied man would help me get into the pool before anyone else,” he thought.

Jesus had asked him a question and got what we would term a wrong response, but he was sincere, and Jesus, knowing that he truly desired to be healed, heard the words from his heart, “yes, I want to be made well.”

You see, it’s not entirely disappointing to Jesus when we are like the man in question today. Sometimes, we understand things just as Jesus would love us to. Other times, like the sick man, we fail to see beyond our noses, or beneath the surface. However we may be, Jesus desires that we approach Him with childlike sincerity. When we come to Jesus as we are without an empty attempt at impressing Him, when we tell Him things just as we understand whilst also open to listening to Him, we increase our chances of receiving healing and loving correction from Him.

We must be simple, heartful and totally transparent in our relationship with Jesus. With Him, there should be no disguise because eventually, we can hide nothing from Him. He knows us through and through, and so, putting up a front can only be futile with Him.

“Sincerity makes the very least person to be of more value than the most talented hypocrite.”

– Charles Spurgeon

Today’s confession

Dad, henceforth, I choose to speak to You from my heart, revealing every weakness, being transparent and without shame.
