Verse of the day
…because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
God is Love
In His primary display of love towards us, He gave up His Son Jesus as a substitute for our sins. Not just that, He also gave us the Holy Spirit by Whom we can now serve and obey God.
Since God is Love, The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Love. And since we have Him residing in us, pouring out the love of God into our hearts, our nature, at its core, is one of Love i.e. we are love beings, recreated in the image of Christ. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
So, it may be that all you find in yourself is persistent resentment, bitterness, anger… that may be who you see but that is not who you are. When you see yourself as God sees you, and live by that, you’ll find that in you lies the utmost ability to love above all else.
We must be careful not to interpret this love as being of an emotional kind. No. This love of God that we have been made partakers of is not merely emotional, it isn’t sentimental, it knows no man after the flesh, it does not prefer according to race, tribe, tongue, or gender. It sees everyone as one. It loves the sinner as well as the saint; for God loves everyone; He makes the sun to shine on the just and on the unjust, same with the rain, and the air we breathe.
Like a branch to a tree, our love must spring up out of the very essence of God. This means that however we Love (God or humanity), must be in accordance to the will of God which is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit and His Word. Anything short of this, no matter how passionate or effervescent, isn’t love. Therefore, quit claiming to know how to love and let the Spirit of Love teach you to love as Jesus loves.
