Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
To some, it may be a little absurd that after receiving the infilling of the Holy Ghost and approved publicly by the Father as His beloved son, Jesus was not immediately led to start his work, publicly. Instead, He was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness; a solitary, uncertain and desolate land. Jesus, being sold out to obedience yielded to Him. He never questioned the Father, nor did He doubt the Father’s love or the sufficiency of His Spirit during the subsequent 40 days and 40 nights. He trusted Him fully.
This is sometimes the same for us as children of the Father. After a powerful encounter with the Holy Spirit or a definite commissioning to go out and manifest the power of the Holy Ghost, we sometimes assume the Father wants us to launch out immediately. We become ‘too fervent’ at the expense of specific instructions from the Spirit. It may be confusing if He decides to lead us to a place of rejection, seeming lack or delayed fruitfulness; in fact, for some, they begin to doubt the truthfulness of the experience they had.
Beloved, it’s not absurd or untrue. If it was necessary for Jesus’ journey, it is necessary for us. If the Spirit’s grace was sufficient for Jesus, it is sufficient for us. The Father knows what’s best for us. He did the infilling, He decides the timing of our manifestation. It can be immediately or after 40 days and 40 nights or a lot more.
