Verse of the day
Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
When we come to believe in Jesus as the resurrected Son of God, we easily find that we have been called to a life of conflict.
This conflict does not imply a lack of inward peace, but a call to forsake a system of living which we have embraced all our lives before encountering Christ. This culture which we have been called to forsake is what the scriptures often refer to as “the world;” not a world of people, places or things but an internalized system of living primarily influenced by things that do not matter beyond the temporal (as against the eternal).
Therefore, the question, “who is he who overcomes the world?” is not an attempt at finding the most successful businessman, athlete, or best in a field of endeavor. Rather, the questions “who is he who overcomes the flesh?” “who is he who lives after the nature of heaven?” are being asked. And the only answer to these is “he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
The only way to overcome the ideologies which reign in the human mind nurtured by regular society is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Believing in Jesus causes us to follow Him which eventually births liberation from the system of the world, bringing submission to a way of life built on the principles of the kingdom of God – the principles of righteousness (submission to God’s authority), peace (with God) and joy (in the Holy Ghost).
Jesus, I believe in You. Help me to continually live in total submission to Your will, to always be at peace with you, and have the Holy Ghost as my steady source of joy.
