Verse of the day
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
The difference between one who is a child of God and one who isn’t is not seen in the good works which he does. No. The child of God is one because he has the Spirit of God in him.
This relationship with the Spirit is a two-way relationship. On one hand, the Spirit of God lives in the child of God. Then ideally, this causes the same child of God to be in the Spirit. The first should not go without the second hence the words of the apostle, “you are in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.” Also, the second cannot occur without the first. The relationship is a case of Mutualism.
To live in the Spirit is to yield and submit to the government of the Spirit over our lives. We must understand and live by the knowledge that we are not our own but have been bought by the precious blood of Jesus. This is how we gain victory over the desires of the flesh.
We are not to have an unending, unyielding struggle with the flesh to be victorious over it. No, we must first identify with and focus on the truth that, in Christ, we are now in the Spirit, no more in the flesh. Our constant focus on this truth and submission to it gives us our desired victory over the flesh.
Anyone who doesn’t have the spirit of Christ in Him does not belong to Him and is not His child. And this is your blessedness, dear believer, that you have this treasure of the Spirit of Christ right in your earthen vessel. So you’re more than you. You are you, and Christ, now and forever.
References: Galatians 4:6;
I am no more in the flesh but in the Spirit and therefore yield myself completely to the Spirit of God who lives in me.
